It's a good thing I didn't make a New Year's resolution to be nice to people, because I would have failed miserably yesterday. I will admit, I was a bitch, sorry mom. I was so excited to go to Legends to do some shopping on my last day off from school. I had a few returns and wanted to check out the sale racks. Banana Republic at Legends is one of my favorites. I had a pair of jeans I had gotten before Christmas and I wanted to return them. I wore them once and they totally lost their shape. They were clearly defective. I have returned things to Gap before where something similar happened so I didn't think it would be a big deal. Man I was wrong!
So I walk in and told chick working about the jeans:
Chick: "So you want to return something you already wore?"
Me: Yes, they stretched out, yadda yadda yadda and I told her a second time what the problem was.
Chick: gets the manager.
This is where is gets bad. He was such a dick head (DH)! Hey might have been all of 25 years old, and clearly didn't want to be at work that day. Overall very rude!
DH: wanted to compare the jeans to another pair to see if they were stretched.
Me: I am thinking no big deal and did some browsing.
DH: Came to the back of the store and told me he didn't see anything wrong with the jeans, and that I couldn't just return something because I didn't like them.
Me: "Can you show me the other jeans?"
DH: "If you think it is necessary I can." in a very rude tone.
Me: "That would be great, " probably in a rude tone too.
DH: Rolls his eyes and comments, " I have been in retail a long time and I always try to make it a point to be curteous to customers and other people I work with, " in a very condescending tone.
Me: What is he talking about? "Apparently I am the exception," I tell him.
DH: Blank stare. Clearly didn't understand he was being rude.
We walk back to the front of the store and I see then jeans he compared mine to. They were a size 2! I am not embarrassed to say, but I am not a size 2. Now I am really annoyed.
Me: "My jeans are an 8, how can you compare the two and decide there is nothing wrong with mine?"
DH: "All women's jeans stretch, it is normal"
Me: "And you would know because you wear women's jeans?" At this point I am pissed and trying not to let him see my shaking hands and the sweat that is starting on my forehead.
DH: Another blank stare....."I guess I can offer you the amount they are selling for now, $6.50."
Me: "I have my receipt showing what I paid and I could sell those jeans to a second hand store for more than $6.50!"
DH: Rolls eyes again. "Fine I will give you a full refund, but I just want you to now that this will come out of my commission."
Me: Really, that just didn't make any sense, sucks to be you I guess. "Ok."
DH: Again with the eye rolling and slamming things around.
Me: On my way out the door, "You claim to have been working in retail a long time, how have you never learned 'The customer is always right?'"
DH: another blank stare.
I was pissed the whole way home. I call John and rant to him about it. I vowed to call customer service and complain, which I did and got a great apology. I gave them his customer ID from the receipt, since the dick head wouldn't tell me his name. Haha I am smarter than you. They assured me that Banana Republic managers don't work on commission, and that this kid had indeed not followed defective merchandise protocol. All in all I would definitely say, "I win!" Got my money back, got rid of the bad jeans, and complained to customer services who assured me the problem would be dealt with. That'll teach you to be a dick to me, you stupid Johnson county prick. Sorry, but he made me really mad.
